Between 2004 and 2005, the total number of suicides declined from 32,439 (2004) to 31,769 (2005). More specifically, the number of suicides declined for persons ages 25 to 44 (11,712 to 11,262), ages 15 to 24 (4,316 to 4,139), and ages 5 to 14 (285 to 270).

The Physicians' Desk Reference lists the following adverse reactions (side effects) to antidepressants among a host of other physical and neuropsychiatric effects: manic reaction (mania, e.g. kleptomania, pyromania, dipsomania), emotional lability (or instability), abnormal thinking, alcohol abuse, hallucinations, hostility, lack of emotion, paranoid reaction, amnesia, confusion, agitation, delirum, delusions, hysteria, psychosis, sleep disorders, abnormal dreams, and discontinuation (withdrawal) syndrome. Adverse reactions are especially likely when starting or discontinuing the drug, increasing or lowering the dose or when switching from one SSRI to another SSRI. Adverse reactions are often diagnosed as bipolar disorder when the symptoms could be entirely iatrogenic (treatment induced).

The media is largely controlled by their advertisers. The pharmaceutical industry buys more advertising then any other industry. (The media tends to resist biting the hand that feeds). Every day Americans are subjected to a barrage of advertising by the pharmaceutical industry.
In 1999 a study conducted by Adrian Preda, M.D.; Rebecca W. MacLean, M.D.; Carolyn M. Mazure, Ph.D.; and Malcolm B. Bowers, Jr., M.D. found that 8.1% of Psychiatric Admissions to hospitals were due to Antidepressant-Associated Mania and Psychosis (J Clin Psychiatry 2001;62:30-33). The number must be higher now because the numbers of people taking antidepressants has risen significantly.
